About Miranda do Corvo

Miranda do Corvo is a Portuguese municipality in the district of Coimbra. The population in 2011 was 12,462, in an area of 208.40 km². It is located 40 kilometres (25 miles) south-southwest of Coimbra. The present Mayor is Carlos Alberto Lourenço, elected by the Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is June 13. The municipality includes several villages, including Colmeal da Torre, Lousã, Paular, and Vila Nova de Poiares. In the early 20th century, Miranda do Corvo was known for its mineral springs, which were visited by many people seeking cures for various ailments. The springs have since been covered over and are no longer accessible. The municipality is home to the National Forest of Lousã, which covers about half of the municipality's area.
